Isabel Estrada Vaquero is Assistant Professor at the Department Innovation Management & Strategy at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She recently arrived at EMLV as a visiting professor.
A research stay at EMLV to make the most of the interactions with fellow researchers and collaborate in the future: this is Dr. Isabel Estrada Vaquero’s programme for the month of January.
From Spain to the Netherlands
Isabel Estrada Vaquero was born and educated in Valladolid, in the North West of Spain. In the summer of 2011, as she was in the final year of writing her PhD con Collaboration Dynamics in R&D consortia, she had the opportunity to go the University of Groningen, Netherlands, for a 3-month research stay. While she was there, the University opened a position for an assistant professor at the Department Innovation Management and Strategy. Isabel was hired and started teaching courses in collaborative and organizational innovation, in addition to her research work.
“In my career, I never chose places, I chose professors. In Gronigen, there was a professor I wanted to work with. It was a bit similar for EMLV: I met Francesco Paolo Appio at a conference and we realized that there could be common ground on which to collaborate”, she says.
This is how Isabel Estrada Vaquero arrived in Paris early January as an EMLV visiting professor.
A productive research stay in Paris
Isabel Estrada Vaquero will not be teaching at EMLV this time, she will concentrate on her research work. The highlight of this research stay is the opportunity to be surrounded by research fellows, members of the Da Vinci Research Center, to exchange views on innovation and management-related topics and to foster future collaborations. She is invited to take part in the next Business Group Seminar to present her work and Groningen University, an occasion to figure ways of collaborating.
“Face-to-face interactions and developing a close relationship with colleagues are very important to me. I couldn’t get this if I weren’t at EMLV, it’s a wonderful opportunity to be here. What makes places great is the people”.
Spending time with EMLV professors and researchers outside of the classrooms, at lunch break or for an afterwork coffee, is precious for Isabel Estrada Vaquero, who particularly appreciates the welcoming atmosphere at school and feels these moments can also bring opportunities in the medium or long term.
In addition to her teaching position at Groningen University, Isabel Estrada Vaquero is also associate fellow of SOM Research Institute and member of Value in Collaborative Innovation (VinCi) Center of Expertise and Connecting Innovation and Creativity (CONINC) Signature Area.
Her research interests span several topics, namely interorganizational collaboration, with a special focus on strategies for collaborative innovation, including collaboration between competitors, Industry-University alliances, and multi-party alliances such as large research consortia and public-private partnerships. Her research has been published in several book chapters and journals such as Research Policy, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Knowledge Management, Innovation: Management, Policy and Practice, and Journal of Small Business Management. She currently serves as editorial board member for Journal of Management Studies.
