Based on Communicative Language Teaching and Project-Based Learning, Sprint Week offered a practical and intensive approach to language development for advanced English learners.
A New Format for Language Learning at Master’s Level
Workplace Solutions Sprint Week was designed for EMLV learners who have already achieved a B2 level in English. The goal is to provide a pedagogically rigorous course that deepens their ability to communicate effectively in professional environments.
The format mirrors the structure of hackathons, a familiar concept for students at De Vinci Higher Education.
Throughout the 36-hour intensive week, students engaged in team-based consulting simulations. Acting as consultants, they were tasked with developing solutions to workplace issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Their projects were guided by the Theory of Change, a strategic framework often used in social impact initiatives.

Each day, participants completed various speaking and writing assignments based on standard workplace communication formats.
These included internal memos, formal proposals, data-driven reports, policy recommendations, and presentations. A particular focus was placed on distinguishing between different tones, formats, and audiences in professional English.
The integration of AI tools into the assignments allowed students to reflect on the role of emerging technologies in today’s workplace.
Some tasks required the use of AI to support writing or data analysis, while others had to be completed without it. This balanced approach reinforced both autonomy and digital fluency in English.
Collaborative Learning in a Realistic Setting
The week concluded with a mini-conference format, where students presented posters summarising their DEI projects.
This final session included peer-to-peer feedback and evaluation by a jury of peers. Students were assessed not only on the quality of their solutions but also on the clarity, relevance, and professionalism of their communication.
Engagement throughout the week was high as the participants found the course both intellectually stimulating and beneficial to their professional English development.
