With a background in accounting and international project management, Yingzi Qu joined EMLV’s MSc in Supply Chain Management to strengthen her expertise in logistics and sustainability. Her international academic and professional journey reflects her ambition to connect Asian production ecosystems with European markets.
With a strong academic foundation in place, Yingzi turned her focus toward acquiring the technical expertise and soft skills essential for a successful career in supply chain management.
From China to Paris: An International Academic Path
Originally from China, Yingzi Qu’s academic and professional experience spans multiple countries and cultures. Her journey began over a decade ago, when she first arrived in France in 2011 to study the French language.
This immersion laid the foundation for her future studies in the country. After completing her bachelor’s degree in Clermont-Ferrand and earning an MBA in Paris, she went on to gain hands-on experience in Germany. There, she worked in a professional setting that added to her understanding of European business practices.
She later returned to China to continue her career development before deciding to pursue a second postgraduate degree—this time in a field that would allow her to align her international experience with long-term goals in the logistics sector. In October 2024, she enrolled in the MSc in Supply Chain Management at EMLV. For Yingzi, the choice of school and specialisation was strategic.
“I selected EMLV because of its strong academic reputation and location in the heart of La Défense. Being close to many global companies offers real opportunities for networking, internships, and career development,” she explains.
Combining Technical Knowledge with Soft Skills
The MSc in Supply Chain Management at EMLV offers a curriculum that combines theoretical insights with practical applications. Courses cover core areas, including purchasing and sourcing, warehouse management, supply chain strategy, and data analysis.
“These classes gave me the technical skills I was looking for,” says Yingzi. “For example, I learned how to manage warehouse space efficiently and how to set KPIs to evaluate supplier performance.”
Beyond the technical modules, students also benefit from workshops and support that prepare them for professional integration. Yingzi highlights the career coaching sessions as particularly valuable.
“The coaching helped me improve my CV and learn how to connect with industry professionals, especially through platforms like LinkedIn. We were also trained in communication strategies for job interviews and professional networking.”
Focusing on Sustainability and Innovation
Yingzi’s master’s thesis focuses on sustainable development in the supply chain. The topic reflects her interest in future-oriented solutions that balance business growth with environmental responsibility.
“Sustainability is not just a trend—it’s a key concern for companies today. My goal is to understand how businesses can adopt more responsible practices without compromising their financial performance,” she explains.
She views this area as a critical bridge between academic theory and real-world application, especially in an industry that is undergoing rapid transformation due to digitalisation, geopolitical shifts, and environmental regulations.
Career Aspirations: Global Reach with a Local basis
Yingzi’s ambition is to build a career in the purchasing or procurement departments of global companies based in Paris.
She mentions specific firms, such as Sanofi and TotalEnergies, both of which have offices near the EMLV campus in La Défense. “My ideal role would allow me to apply the skills I’ve developed while staying connected to the international business world,” she says.
Her multilingual background, cultural adaptability, and dual familiarity with Asian and European business contexts position her as a valuable asset for companies operating in cross-border logistics.
Living in Paris: A Cultural and Academic Experience
For Yingzi, studying in Paris is not only an academic choice but also a cultural opportunity. Outside the classroom, she explores the city’s museums, parks, and historic landmarks.
“It’s a privilege to study in Paris. The cultural richness adds another layer to the learning experience,” she reflects.
She also recommends learning basic French for those planning to study or work in the city, noting how even simple communication skills can ease daily life.
