The Diversity & Inclusion Hackathon brought together EMLV, ESILV, and IIM students to explore how gamification can promote a more inclusive work environment.
Combining pedagogy, creativity, and collaboration, this interdisciplinary challenge encouraged students to design innovative tools to address workplace discrimination.
Innovation as a Driver of Diversity and Inclusion
For one week, students from the three schools of the Pôle Léonard de Vinci worked together on a central question: How can gamification serve diversity and inclusion in the workplace?
Through collaborative efforts, they were tasked with developing engaging, meaningful solutions grounded in real-world issues.
Engaged Projects for a More Inclusive Society
The projects showcased a wide range of themes, all approached through a creative lens:
- Gender equality: Prototyping playful tools to deconstruct gender stereotypes.
- Age-related bias: Creating games to highlight intergenerational collaboration and value.
- Disability inclusion: Designing gamified experiences to support accessibility at work.
- Cultural and religious diversity: Crafting immersive content to emphasize multicultural understanding.
- LGBTQIA+ inclusion: Developing role-playing activities to foster respect for gender identity and orientation.
- Body diversity: Raising awareness of physical differences through interactive workshops.
A Cross-Disciplinary Approach
The hackathon leveraged the complementary strengths of students across business, engineering, and digital design disciplines.
Each team conducted benchmarking exercises and field research, using analytical tools to gain a more profound understanding of their topic. The main challenge was to translate complex concepts into accessible and impactful experiences.
The combination of management skills from EMLV, engineering know-how from ESILV, and digital creativity from IIM created a space where students could effectively collaborate and take ownership of their ideas.
Learning by Doing: A Transformative Experience
The Diversity & Inclusion Hackathon provided a framework for students to explore collective intelligence while sharpening core competencies:
- Change management: learning to build consensus through reasoning and negotiation.
- Critical thinking: Reassessing assumptions to refine proposals.
- Applied creativity: Moving from ideation to digital prototyping.
This experience also highlighted the value of teamwork and diverse skill sets in addressing socially relevant issues.
