Summer School: EMLV welcomes students from the City University of Hong Kong to Paris

EMLV welcomed a group of students from the City University of Hong Kong as part of an educational and cultural exchange programme.

In May, 27 Chinese students enrolled in the Global Business Management Masters at City University (EQUIS and AACSB accredited) came from Hong Kong for a Summer School at EMLV.

An international summer school in Paris

A group of Chinese students specialising in management and business in Hong Kong undertook a trip as part of their curriculum, which included a compulsory week abroad.

At the invitation of Professor Jingshu DU, a specialist in innovation and strategy at EMLV, the students enjoyed a programme rich in educational and cultural experiences. They took part in seminars and workshops focusing on business innovation and strategy. These sessions enabled students to develop their knowledge and skills in these key areas by exchanging with experts and sharing ideas with their peers.

A professional, educational, and cultural immersion

One of the highlights of their stay was their participation in a session at the De Vinci Innovation Center. Under the guidance of Professor Jingshu DU, a specialist in innovation and strategy, the students visited the center’s three major areas of research: Artificial Lives, Resilient Futures, and Human Learning. These exciting research areas explore the new frontiers of technology and innovative thinking.

During this session, students could interact with DVIC experts, exchange ideas and discover current projects. They were able to familiarise themselves with technological advances in artificial intelligence, sustainable innovation, and human learning methods.

This immersion in the De Vinci Innovation Center opened up new perspectives for the Chinese students, encouraging them to further explore the fields of innovation and research at the intersection of technology and business. This enriching experience will undoubtedly remain a highlight of their university studies and help to broaden their academic and professional horizons.

In addition to the academic experiences, the Chinese students’ visited several well-known companies with whom EMLV has strong partnerships. These included Euronext and Société Générale, which opened their doors to offer the students a privileged insight into the professional world.

Société Générale was particularly involved in the visit, thanks to the invitation extended by Xiaojing QIE, an EMLV alumnus and current IT Project Manager at the company. Having obtained her MBA from EMLV in 2008, Xiaojing QIE facilitated this meeting by allowing the students to explore behind the scenes at one of France’s largest financial institutions.

This opportunity enabled students to understand better the operations and challenges of the banking sector, as well as career prospects in the field of information technology. They had the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals, ask questions and receive valuable advice for their future careers.

Two educational seminars

On the pedagogical front, students benefited from academic seminars led by two eminent EMLV professors, enriching their learning experience.

The first seminar, led by Dr. Julie Escurignan, Head of the Cultural and Creative Industries Management specialization, explored the links between tourism and branding through the case study of Paris and its representation in film, television, music, and art. Students could acquire in-depth knowledge of tourism marketing and the management of cultural activities while discussing the terms and stereotypes conveyed in cultural works.

The second seminar, led by Insaf Khelladi, Head of the Business Group at the De Vinci Research Center, focused on wine and international marketing. Students were able to discover the importance of marketing in the wine sector and aspects relating to the promotion and distribution of wines on a global scale.

The students also had the opportunity to participate in a seminar and visit the De Vinci Fablab.

A cultural visit under Da Vici’s mark

To round off their stay in France, the students could also enjoy cultural activities in line with the school’s DNA, including a day in Amboise at Le Clos Lucé, the last home of Leonardo da Vinci.

The trip also allowed students to discover and appreciate the cultural wealth of Paris. They could visit iconic sites such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre Dame Cathedral, as well as stroll along the banks of the Seine. In addition, they had the chance to sample renowned French cuisine, explore local restaurants, and discover the unique flavors of French gastronomy.
